As you all know, from 1 January 2006 there are a new set of FINA figures and elements and these will apply to our South West Age Groups competition in September.

Janice Waters has had several requests for a further teach-in following the first day held in January, and confirms that this will be held on 1 July (see below).

We are utilising water time with a Club development day trying to keep the costs low. This will include lunch and will be all practical work. Lynsey Goff will be coming to Quantock again and will be demonstrating each figure in the Age Groups. If you need demonstration of anything else, elements, skills etc. that can be arranged.

Details of each day’s timings are enclosed on a separate sheet (see below) which Clubs are asked to display for their swimmers and parents.

Club contacts are asked to check the print out carefully for any errors in names, times and dates of birth etc, as Robert Margetts will be printing the programme with the heats preseeded.

Please email or post Robert Margetts with any alterations and not via phone. The programme for both weekends will go to print on 5 June 2006.

Also sent is one event from the Sprint Competition at Gloucester. Swimmers have been entered in all events, so again check personal details. If your swimmers have not sent in times for all events and do not wish to swim in heat 1 please let Robert have times.

Note that for the 800/1500m reverse events, 6 boys and 9 girls so far express a wish to swim. THESE WISHES MUST BE CONFIRMED BY THE END OF THE MORNING SESSION IN WHICH THE 1500m OR 800m HEATS ARE SWUM i.e. Boys Saturday 10th and girls Sunday 11th. This is to enable swimmers to know they are required the following weekend. Entries will not be taken on the 17 or 18 June. These reverse events will not be counted towards BAGCAT points.

Swimmers are reminded that BAGCAT points are only awarded from the heat swims and this year there is sponsorship from Swimrite, who run the shop at Millfield, 1st £20, 2nd £15 & 3rd £10.

An open trial for the Scottish Women’s Senior Water Polo squad takes place on 10/11 June 2006. Anyone who qualifies to play for Scotland but is not resident in Scotland would be welcome to attend (see SASA rules if in doubt).

The sessions are as follows.
Sat 10-Jun-06 10:00 12:00 Tollcross
Sat 10-Jun-06 14:00 16:00 Tollcross
Sun 11-Jun-06 10:00 12:00 Ed Uni
Sun 11-Jun-06 13:00 15:00 Ed Uni

There will be a conflict on the Sunday for some U/18 players who will be playing in the Scottish Cup finals. Also the Edinburgh Marathon is being run on the Sunday morning from 9 am and the course goes right past the pool! Allow lots of time to get there – you may have to park far away.

The plan is to select a squad of about 20 players from which teams will be selected for the required events throughout the next 12 months.

Events this year include:

NWWPL Div 3 that covers 6 weekends playing at various venues in England. (Excluding anyone already playing for a club in the NWWPL)

International Waterpolo Tournament, Oosterhout, the Netherlands 1 – 3 Sept 2005.

Swedish Invite tournament in November 2005. (I’m not sure of the details).

There will also be a Women’s competition in the Scottish National League in the Autumn for the Scottish clubs to enter.

There will also be about 7 training weekends in the same period.

A calendar of events will be available and updated regularly.

It is expected that the players be committed to the squad. That means an expectation you will be available for 80% of the games and 90% of the training sessions.

In the interest of getting as many people along to this weekend as possible, please pass this on to anyone that would be eligible to attend. If they have any questions they can contact Mike Coles on 07966 684710 or Ken Fussell, the Scottish Women’s Water Polo manager on 07730413136 (Fuzzell_k@yahoo.com).
