Frederiksen said: "I knew I was in pretty good form from yesterday but I was really pleased with this morning’s swim. I felt good and I still have the 400m on Sunday so I will see what I can do."

Procter had broken the British record when he clocked 56.64 in the men’s heat but in the final his fellow SM14 swimmer Daniel Pepper (Stockport Mo) snatched the mark back with 56.36, adding gold to the one he won yesterday.

Pepper said: "That was a total surprise because I didn’t feel very good but I managed to hold it and come back in the second 50m. My girlfriend was here today so after getting a British record yesterday I had to do something good today!"

There was also a British record for SM13 swimmer Dave Ellis whose 56.74 left him in fourth place overall in the points total behind Pepper, Procter and David Roberts (Swansea Perf).

14-year-old Sian Harkin (Co Cardiff) lowered her own British Age Group record by almost 0.5 seconds in the Womens Open 50m Butterfly with her time of 27.87, which put her 6th in the race won by Beijing Olympian Jess Sylvester (Nova Cent’n) with 27.24.

In the Mens Open 100m Freestyle final 16-year-old James Young also lowered the Age Group mark to 51.48 in a race won by Loughborough Uni’s Ben Hockin in 49.66.

In the Youth Champs, the British Age Group record fell in the Boys 15/16yrs 100m Back as 16-year-old David Gregory (Plymouth Lea) powered to victory with 56.90, ahead of his team-mate Grant Halsall 57.27 and Craig McNally (Warrender Ba) in 57.69.

"Coming into the meet I was nowhere near my PB," he said. "Then I go and get a PB in the heat, beat that in the semis and get an Age Group record in the final! We always say don’t think about it, just get down and do it – then you don’t get disappointed if you don’t do it. Just today I did well."

James Young (Plymouth Leander) also set a new Boys 16yrs Age Group record in the 100m Freestyle with his 51.38 in the second of the boys’ semi-finals.

Kenya’s young swimming sensation Ajulu-Bushell Achieng swam to an emphatic victory in the Girls 14/15yrs 100m Breaststroke. In her semi-final yesterday the Plymouth Leander swimmer clocked 1:08.60 and although she could not match that time she continued to show similar form in the final to finish in 1:08.71, nearly 2.5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field and faster than the girls in the 16/17yrs age group.

"I was hoping to go faster than yesterday but I felt tired because it was a long day yesterday," she said. "I’m off to the World Championships in Rome tomorrow to compete in the 50m Breaststroke so I’m excited and nervous about that."

Anne Bochmann (Co Leeds) added gold in the Girls 14/15yrs 100m Free by breaking her PB with 57.32, ahead of Emma Saunders’ (Co Manch Aq) 57.36PB and Sycerika McMahon’s (Leander SC) 57.53.

"I am really pleased with that as it’s a big PB and I still feel quite good," she said. "I didn’t have a very good 800m Free earlier in the day but I haven’t had the training and I haven’t had a good season so I am pleased."

It was Sophie Casson (Loughborough Uni) who took the national title in the Womens Open 800m Freestyle (HDW) as she came near to her PB with 8:44.12. "I felt really good in the water," Casson said. "I have been doing a lot of open water stuff so it’s good to get back in the pool and get close to a PB, especially at the end of the year. It was also a bit of a confidence boost beating people like Cassie Patten [6th in the Open event] who have been to the Olympics."

16-year-old Emma Graham (Co Leeds) touched in second place with 8:45.37 to take the silver medal in the National event and secure gold in the Girls 16/17yrs category, while Eleanor Faulkner smashed her own best by more than 10 seconds with 8:46.92 to take bronze (and silver in the Girls 16/17yrs). 14-year-old Daniella Hall-Jackson (Co Leeds) took the Girls 14/15yrs title with 8:48.19.
