Have your say on your sport

There’s still time left to get the answers about anything that influences your sport. The ASA have extended the deadline for you to submit questions for a special ‘Question Time’ session being run as part of the Swimming Conference on Saturday 23 October 2010.

Club administrators are being given the chance to pitch any questions they may have and possibly have them answered ‘live’ by members of the ASA senior management team.

This could be a question about how clubs can be involved in the countdown to 2012 or a burning issue surrounding how swimming fits in with the new government’s plans for sport. Whatever the issues affecting your club, you can put them forward for consideration in the Question Time session.

To send in your questions simply follow this link and email your questions by Wednesday 15 September 2010.

Swimming Times Survey

The ASA are offering you, or any of your club members, the chance to win copies of the best books Swimming Times has reviewed (or intends to review) this year. All you have to do is complete the short survey.

Do you look forward to receiving Swimming Times every month? Do you enjoy the letters? And what about our Teaching Pool articles and features on top athletes? Have you ever won one of the competition prizes? Is Swimming Times a real source of information and news or do you quickly browse through it and wish it was different?

The Swimming Trust / Schwepps Abbey Well Teacher Coach Education and Training Grant Fund

Coca Cola boosts coaches to get an expected 22,000 more people swimming with the The Swimming Trust / Schwepps Abbey Well Teacher Coach Education and Training Grant Fund!

Gaining a coach education qualification is vital in developing the all aquatic sports. Undertaking such training is often expensive. To help support training costs The Swimming Trust with the support of Schwepps Abbey Well have created a grant fund for selected candidates from affiliated and accredited clubs. The ASA Swimming Conference … it’s your sport

Saturday 23 October 2010 (9am to 3pm) - Holywell Park, Loughborough

The ASA Swimming Conference is your chance to talk to the ASA and discuss how we can work together to drive the sport’s future development.

This year’s conference is aimed at those involved in club administration and we want to develop a real two-way dialogue between staff and delegates on the day.

As well as guest speakers David Sparkes (Chief Executive of the ASA) and Baroness Sue Campbell (Chair of UK Sport), all delegates will have the opportunity to attend workshops and visit the ‘communication zone’ where you will be able to chat to ASA staff on any matters that concern your club, whether that’s workforce, volunteering, talent, purchasing Awards, swim21 or the ASA website.

Click to read the draft programme.

Workshops

The day will also feature a number of interactive workshops that will run both in the morning and afternoon to give delegates the chance to attend the two that interest them most. The full list of workshops is:

Good Practice Guidelines on the use of Social Networking Sites

The ASA has issued new guidance to advise clubs how to deal with the world of social networking from a child safeguarding point of view. Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and video-sharing sites like You Tube provide exciting opportunities but they are accompanied by dangers and negative consequences if abused by users.

This is why the ASA has published the *Good Practice Guidelines on the use of Social Networking Sites by ASA Clubs and Club Members created by the legal department of the ASA with guidance of offical bodies. The purpose of this guidance is to provide a recommendation of best practice to all ASA club members and parents on the use of social networking sites as they relate to that individual’s role in the ASA club.

The ASA has also produced a specific guide for Twitter. The Parents' Guide to Twitter (web book version) is a step-by-step guide for parents on using the social micro-blogging web service. It explains what Twitter is, how to set up an account and how to use it. It should be read in conjunction with the Wavepower guidance on using social networks.

* Download Good Practice Guidelines below. Document is Wavepower 2009 – 2011 (August 2010) Section 2 Page 66A.
