The ASA Talent Development Water Polo Programme 2010/11

There will be a trial for 95/96, 97/98 and 98/99 age group entry to the Regional Training Centre on Friday 1 October 2010 at Pyramids Pool, Exeter

Please be there at 7pm for registration. The trial starts 7.30 and runs until 9pm. Anyone in the respective age groups is welcome to come to the trial. If unsuccessful on 1 October, names will be kept and players notified should any spaces become available.

Cost of the trial is £5 and if successful, this will be deducted from the term fees of £55. Cheques should be made payable to ASA.

Please can clubs and coaches download and unzip the file for the term timetable and advert. Please display them at your pool or forward to anyone in your club you think may be interested. Danube Cup 2010 Great Britain 12 v 11 Slovakia

The GB Senior Men’s Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, are competing in the Danube Cup against Slovakia, Romania and Greece.

Match 1 – Great Britain 12 - 11 Slovakia (4-2 / 2-3 / 3-3 / 3-3)

Head Coach Cristian Iordache commented: "We went 4-1 ahead in the first quarter after an excellent controlled start from all points. Slovakia came back at us and brought the score to 6-6 before going further to lead 8-6.

"But we changed our tactics and came strongly back to lead 10-8 and then 12-10. Our opponents scored again with a counter attack to make it 12-11 but with an extra man and a time-out in the last 30 seconds, we spread around control of the ball to the end of the match.

GB Women Pre-Season Water Polo Training Camp - Days 1-4

The Women’s Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, have been preparing for the start of the upcoming season with a training camp against Germany in Gronau.

Day 1

Joanna Wray, World Class Programmes Manager, comments: "This is our first competitive game since the girls had their well deserved rest whilst the Germans are in full preparation for the European Championships in 10 days time."

"Due to the rather cold weather, Szilveszter [Fekete, Women’s Head Coach] picked two teams, both playing three quarters each in a row with just one sub.

"It meant the team had a real endurance game with few breaks and constant pressure. The first team in the water included Alex Rutlidge, Angie Winstanley-Smith, Chloe Wilcox, Fiona McCann, Frankie Snell, Fran Leighton, Rebecca Kershaw, and Rosie Morris in goal."

GB finish best ever seventh in the LEN European Junior Water Polo Championships 2010

The British Junior Women’s Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, yesterday secured a seventh place finish in the LEN European Championships taking place in Dneprodzerzhinsk, Ukraine.

After securing a guaranteed top eight spot with wins earlier in the week against Serbia, Ukraine and Germany, the team faced a difficult match-up against the Netherlands who outplayed the Brits to take a 17-4 victory securing a place in the 5th-6th classification match.

The British team found themselves fighting for seventh place against France in their final match of the Championships.

GB lose to Russia in 2010 Women`s European Junior Water Polo Championships Quarter Final

The British Women’s Junior Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, were unable to overcome the tough Russian battle in yesterday’s quarter-final match as they went down 18-3.

The team, competing in Ukraine at the LEN Junior Women’s Water Polo Championships, have enjoyed a very successful week which has seen them overcome the likes of Serbia, Ukraine and Germany to earn their first ever final-eight position.

Wins for GB in 2010 Women`s European Junior Water Polo Championships

The British Women’s Junior Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, are making headway in the LEN European Junior Water Polo Championships in Ukraine.

Head Coach, Nick Hume said: "We started with a very competitive game against Hungary. Unfortunately we lost 13-5, but our performance was strong. After that game the scores started to better reflect our performance."

The ASA South West Region Water Polo Club Championships (Mixed) 12&U did not take place due to short notice of a pool cancellation. The Tournament will be rearranged for autumn / winter 2010.

Sat 3 Jul 2010 - Cheltenham

The ASA South West Region Club Championships (Mixed) 14&U saw eight teams competing in two groups of four for the initial stages, with each team playing the others once.

The top two teams from each group would then proceed to the finals.

The entrants for this competition were drawn in two groups. Group A was North West ‘A’ (1), North East (4), Ireland and West Midlands. Group B contained South West (2), London (3), East Midlands, Scotland and North West ‘B’. The numbers in brackets were the seeded sides based on GB squad lists.

The ASA South West Region group game results were 22-2 (Scotland), 18-4 (North West ‘B’), 16-2 (East Midlands) and 15-5 (London). With victories in all our games, we won the group with a positive goal difference of 58. We played a fast counter attacking brand of polo using the strength of the squad. All players scored at least one goal.

President Cup, Poland Day 3 - GB Water Polo beat Poland

The Senior Men’s Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, are competing in the President’s Cup in Poland. Team Manager Tony Strong reports on the final game of the series as the sun fianlly came out in Poland and with it the crowds!

A tired GB team turned up to the pool knowing that another good performance would see them lift the President's Cup, another key gong of the events following Matt Holland being crowned 'tache of the tournament.

GB goal keeper Matt Holland was especially pleased for the warm weather as he had likend the last game to "...swimming in the local lake!"

President Cup 2010 Day 2 - GB beat Belarus and Poland

The Senior Men’s Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, are competing in the President Cup in Poland - Team Manager Tony Strong reports on Day 2 for swimming.org on their games against Belarus and Poland.

Day two started very cold, with both teams showing a reluctance to enter the water. The British team however warmed up proceedings with a rousing rendition of the national anthem. They also gained the first psychological advantage by revealing the moustaches had been shaved off!

President Cup, Poland - GB 21 v 5 Belarus

The Senior Men’s Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, are competing in the President Cup in Poland. Team Manager Tony Strong reports for swimming.org:

The GB team started the game in high spirits sporting a variety of moustaches for their ‘Tash of the Tournament' contest in aid of Movember. This worked well to throw the young Belarus team off their game initially!

Birthday boy Jake Vincent scored first to put the team into an early lead. Further goals followed from Alex Parsonage, Rob Parker and Tom Curwen to give the British team a 4-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
