Bristol Primary Aquasplash Festivals - Sep 2010

Aquasplash Festivals are a chance for pupils to take part in a swimming event designed for all levels. Those taking part will be able to do various activities based on various swimming disciplines including water polo, diving, synchronised swimming and life-saving skills.

The Bristol festivals are supported by the competition manager team, Bristol City Council, the RNLI and local swimming clubs.

FINA World Masters Synchronised Swimming Championships 2010

Great Britain’s Masters Synchro Team followed up the swimmers’ success at the World Masters Championships in Göteborg with medallists in the solo, duet and trio events.

Brighton Dolphin’s Linda Doidge, Elizabeth Fitzsimons and Margaret Hamerton were the only British gold medallists in Sweden, winning the 50-64 trio.

Having scored 58.375 for their technical routine, the trio added another 63.375 in their free to finish on 121.750 – 4.875 clear of nearest challengers SC Delphin Eschweiler of Germany.

FINA World Masters Swimming Championships 2010

31 July to 6 August 2010 (Swimming) - Göteborg, Sweden

Britain’s Masters showed their abilities on the World Stage as they took to the blocks at the FINA World Swimming Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Women’s 200m Breaststroke saw the British contingent pick up five medals as they showed their dominance in the event.

FINA World Masters Swimming Championships 2010 - Day 3

31 July to 6 August 2010 (Swimming) - Göteborg, Sweden

William Letch secured a gold and silver medal in Gothenburg as he swam in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly. The Exmouth swimmer, competing in the 70-74 years category, finished the Freestyle in 31.16 to take the title and followed it up with a second place finish in the Butterfly after touching in 1:21.56.

Jean Howard-Jones (Spencer) added to her medal haul with a bronze in the Women’s 65-69 years 50m Freestyle and the 200m Individual Medley.

FINA World Masters Swimming Championships 2010 - Day 2

31 July to 6 August 2010 (Swimming) - Göteborg, Sweden

British masters swimmers finished day two with 14 medals including five golds.

Judith Hattle won two gold medals in the 50 – 54 years 400m Individual Medley and the 50 – 54 years 50m Butterfly. She touched in a time of 5:56.39 in the 400m to win her gold and in a time of 31.38 in the Butterfly to claim her second gold of the day.

31 July to 6 August 2010 (Swimming) - Göteborg, Sweden

The first two days of competition have seen some of Britain’s best Masters swimmers pick up 14 medals.

Jean Howard-Jones (Spencer) took silver in the Women’s 65-69 years 100m Freestyle in a time of 1:19.86. The Dorset swimmer holds British, European and World records and will be looking to set some more throughout the week.

British Gas ASA Synchronised Swimming Masters Championships 2010

Saturday 19 June 2010 - Telford.

The British Gas ASA Synchronised Swimming Masters Championships 2010 saw some impressive performances. Former British team member Louise Woolley took top honours in the Solo 20-29 years age group competition. Wooley, competing for Rushmoor, scored an impressive 78.188 to win gold ahead of Walsall’s Zoe Cooper whose 73.188 was enough to earn a silver medal.

British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships (50m) 2010 - Day 3

Friday 18 to Sunday 20 June 2010 - Tollcross Leisure Centre, Glasgow

The final day ended in style with more world, European and British records set in Glasgow.

Royal Navy’s Joanna Corben set a new European record in the Women’s 200m Backstroke (40-45 years age group) as she powered home in a time of 2:27.78. The 40-year-old swimmer now holds European records in the event in three consecutive age groups.

British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships (50m) 2010 - Day 2

Friday 18 to Sunday 20 June 2010 - Tollcross Leisure Centre, Glasgow

Day two saw more records set as some of Britain’s best swimmers took to the water in Glasgow. Christine Porter’s efforts saw her break the Women’s 100m Freestyle (50-54 years) European record twice in one day.

Leading off the Barnet Copthall Women’s 4x100m Freestyle relay team, Porter touched in 1:04.84 to claim the new European record for the 100m Freestyle and help her team take victory. Later in the pool Porter showed it was no fluke as she matched the record in a close contest with Judith Hattle in the 50-54 years age category.

Friday 18 to Sunday 20 June 2010 - Tollcross Leisure Centre, Glasgow.

World and European records fell on day one.

Spencer Swim Team set the world record in the Men’s 800m Freestyle Team event (240+ years) as Gavin Barlow, Graham Short, Geoff Stokes and Tony Cherrington touched in a time of 10:43.69.
