The ASA Talent Development Water Polo Programme 2010/11

There will be a trial for 95/96, 97/98 and 98/99 age group entry to the Regional Training Centre on Friday 1 October 2010 at Pyramids Pool, Exeter

Please be there at 7pm for registration. The trial starts 7.30 and runs until 9pm. Anyone in the respective age groups is welcome to come to the trial. If unsuccessful on 1 October, names will be kept and players notified should any spaces become available.

Cost of the trial is £5 and if successful, this will be deducted from the term fees of £55. Cheques should be made payable to ASA.

Please can clubs and coaches download and unzip the file for the term timetable and advert. Please display them at your pool or forward to anyone in your club you think may be interested. British Gas ASA Zonal Championships (50m) 2011

29-30 January 2011 - Crystal Palace

This new competition, introduced for the first time in 2011, brings together swimmers from three regions, South West, South East and London into a zonal championships.

The 2011 meet will be hosted by London Region. The competition will be hosted by the other regions in turn in subsequent years.

Arrangements are currently being finalised. We anticipate full details (conditions and how to enter) to be completed before the end of September.

Note: The qualifying times are automatic qualifying times. Swimmers achieving these times will be accepted. A set of consideration times will be added after consultation with clubs to determine the likely level of support for this new competition.

Licensed Level 1 (age as on 7 November 2010). Entry times must have been achieved in licensed meets at level 1, 2 or 3 since 1 January 2010.

South West Youth Challenge 2010

If you are a youth swimmer and haven’t qualified for any Regional event since October 2009, this competition is for you!

The competition will be held during the afternoons of the Regional Championships at Millfield (25m pool) on 6 & 7 November 2010. During the mornings you will have the opportunity to take the timekeeper’s course or start Judge 1 and a team manager’s course.

Your Challenge?
Saturday 6 November - event will be 4 x 50m sprints.
You are challenged to make the top 8 (on aggregate points) to compete in a 100m IM final. Awards will be made to first 3 in each final.

Sunday 7 November - events will be 100m all strokes.
Your challenge is to improve your entry time. An award will be made to the swimmer who has the greatest percentage improvement in each event.

David Davies, Robert and Georgia Holderness and Jazmin Carlin named in Welsh team for Commonwealths

A 16-strong Welsh swimming squad has been announced for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October.

Jazmin Carlin will spearhead the women’s challenge and aims to become the first Welsh woman to win a Commonwealth medal in the pool since Pat Bevan in 1974.

Double Olympic medallist David Davies, 25, will be competing in his third Commonwealth Games having scooped two of Wales’ three medals in Melbourne four years ago with gold in the 1500m freestyle and bronze in the 400m freestyle.

Olympic and World Champions spearhead England swimming team at Delhi 2010

Double Olympic Champion Rebecca Adlington will stand alongside World Champions Liam Tancock, Gemma Spofforth and Keri-Anne Payne when they represent England at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games as part of a 45-strong swimming squad which was finalised today after last weekend’s final selection event.

The team, announced by Commonwealth Games England, will compete for Commonwealth honours against the likes of world number two swimming nation Australia, the emerging might of Canada and a strong South African squad while rivalries with Scotland and Wales will be fierce.

Now is your chance to come and support your swimming stars as some of the nation’s best battle for the remaining places to go to the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.

England’s elite will have just returned from competing at the European Championships in Budapest and will be aiming to continue their form.

LEN European Championships 2010

With one of the benchmark meets of 2010 beginning on 4 August 2010, Britain’s aquatic stars are putting the final touches to their preparations in their bid for glory.

British Swimming is sending athletes to compete in all four events that are taking place. The competition will see a total of 1,100 athletes fighting to become European Champion.

The LEN European Championships begin with Synchronised Swimming and Open Water Swimming.

Scottish Aquatics team announced for Delhi

Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS) and Scottish Swimming today announced the 21 swimmers (11 men and 10 women) selected to represent Team Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in October.

Amongst those named in the team is Glasgow born breaststroker and Team Bath student Michael Jamieson who is coached by Dave McNulty and competed last year at the World University Games in Belgrade and the European SC Championships in December.

David Carry and Caitlin McClatchey, both double gold medallist from Melbourne, set the Scotland team alight in 2006 winning gold on the first day of the competition, beating home favourites Australia in their own back yard.
