Take part in the European study on the funding of grassroots sport

The European Commission has launched a study on the funding of grassroots sports in the 27 member states. Read on to find out how your club can get involved.

The European Commission aims to analyse the barriers to sport funding and to identify ways of strengthening the development of grassroots sport across the European Union. And it is seeking views from clubs across the 27 Member States to do so.

As part of the study, sports clubs around Europe are being surveyed to better understand how they are financed and structured as well as the difficulties they face.

The survey comprises mostly comparative studies in football, gymnastics, tennis, basketball and athletics, but the Commission is seeking contributions from all sports.

Click for details

ASA South West Region and Partners have put together an exciting programme of courses, CPD and learning opportunities for teachers, coaches and volunteers across the region, and news of The Regional Workforce Awards 2010 for Teachers and Coaches and Regional Aquaforce Volunteer Awards 2010.

What we do

This is the regional site for swimming, synchronised swimming, open water swimming, diving and waterpolo in the south west of England. Our organisation is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association.

The Board is committed to ensuring opportunities that swimmers currently have can continue, whilst working to ensure we are providing the best opportunities for all, and forge working relationships with potential partners for the future.

Regional committees

The role of the Board is:

  • Strategic direction
  • Governance
  • Financial Management
  • Addressing Talent, Health, Education and driving forward their development
  • Business development

The development of disciplines will be the responsibility of the committees within the strategic direction identified by the Board.

Planning

Regional Director, Alison Usher and the Board produced a Swimming Plan for the South West. This strategic plan offered a vision for swimming over a 4 year period. This strategy is inclusive and recognises that there are many providers and participants involved in our sport and the need for a strategy that addresses all. The end result is a strategic document that our partners can buy into and will hit targets for health, education, lifelong participation and success.

This plan is being updated (download Nov 08 draft) so it will still be relevant. We welcome feedback and will continue to work to ensure that your issues and priorities are addressed within the plan.

Click to download all 2009/10 discipline plans (diving, open water, swimming, synchronised swimming and water polo) and unzip the file, or access plans invidually under menu link 'Manage' or the relevant Discipline's Development section via the Sport's tab.

Make sure you are aware of what is happening. We will be happy to answer any questions and help you find out what is needed.

As plans and structures are approved and appointments made, the latest news will be posted on www.swimwest.org. Please stay in touch and enjoy your visit to our website.
