Wesport Launches The West of England Celebration of Sport Evening

February 2012 sees the launch of the West of England Sport Trust’s (Wesport) new Celebration of Sport Evening. This event will give recognition to the achievements and successes of outstanding athletes, inspirational volunteers, great coaches and high quality clubs and organisations in the West of England.

The Celebration of Sport Evening will be held on 23 May 2012 at the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel, and Wesport are very pleased to announce that the event will be hosted by former World, European and Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist Kriss Akabusi.

Kriss Akabusi said:

“Sport happens in England thanks to thousands of people giving up their time to make it happen without them, we would not be able to do the sport we love and I would not have been able to achieve all that I have achieved in sport. With London 2012 getting closer every day, I am very pleased to be a part of the West of England Celebration of Sport Evening which will recognise a few of these very special sporting heros.”

Wesport wants to celebrate those people who are truly inspiring and who work every day to make sure that sport happens in the West of England. As 2012 is the year of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, it’s the perfect opportunity!

The Celebration of Sport Evening also coincides with the London 2012 Torch Relay celebrations that will be taking place from the 22nd – 23rd May 2012 in the West of England area.

An email will be sent to all Registration Officers over the 24 hours from launch, inviting them to activate their account. So, make sure you check your inbox.

ASA affiliated club survey

The Leisure Database Company (TLDC) are currently linking the Active Places sports facilities database (owned by Sport England) to affiliated clubs that play and train at them and need your help.

Shortly all ASA affiliated clubs will be contacted by a researcher at The Leisure Database Company (TLDC) to run through a short questionnaire.

The collection of this information will make it easier for the public to find out about swimming opportunities near them and provide valuable business intelligence to both Sport England and ourselves to begin to plug the knowledge gaps around club facility usage, market understanding and strategic planning.
