GB able to compete in synchronised swimming team and duet competitions at London 2012 after BOA decision

The British Olympic Association (BOA) has confirmed that synchronised swimming will be given the opportunity to utilise the maximum nine Host National Qualification Places available in order to compete in both the team and duet competitions at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

"

We have worked so hard since we were centralised in 2007 and to be recognised as being competitive on a world stage by the British Olympic Association is great. We are all really excited about having the opportunity to compete at the Olympics. For me it is a dream to compete at a Home Games and now I just can’t wait for London to come around. - British Synchronised Swimmer Katie Dawkins from Bristol.

"

The decision to permit British Swimming, the National Governing Body for swimming, diving, synchronised swimming, water polo and open water in Great Britain, to utilise the Host Nation Qualification Places for synchronised swimming was made by the British Olympic Association’s (BOA) Olympic Qualifying Standards Panel, which among others includes Team GB Chef de Mission Andy Hunt; the Chair of the BOA Athletes Commission Sarah Winckless; and the BOA’s Director of Sport Sir Clive Woodward. The decision was made following detailed and comprehensive consultations with the British Swimming.
