ASA South West Region Disability Swimming Talent Identification Day - 9 Oct 2011

Sunday 9 October 2011 - Pelhams Park Leisure Centre, Bournemouth, Dorset.

Have you got what it takes to be a Paralympic Swimmer? Talent Identification events are aimed at unearthing potentially talented athletes who can be signposted into high quality swimming provision and supported to develop and progress through the disability swimming pathway.

The ASA are looking for swimmers who:

  • Have a physical, sensory or learning disability
  • Can swim lengths
  • Are between the ages of 9-35
  • Have a competitive nature and would like to be involved in competitive disability swimming

This is a great opportunity not to be missed, so please download and unzip the file below for the flyer and registration tracker form and pass the information on to any swimmers who you know that would be interested. Please advertise and promote this as widely as possible.

Attendance is by pre arrangement only. Registrations must be received by Friday 23 September 2011.

ASA SW Region DSE Disability Swimming Championships 2011

30 October 2011 - Pyramids Leisure Centre, Exeter.

This competition is open to any swimmer with a physical, sensory or intellectual disability. Swimmers who are not classified may enter. There will be a functional classification session held in conjunction with the event. Classification appointments are offered to swimmers who are on the classification list, and enter the competition. For more information about functional classifications please contact Carolyn Wade on 01625440434.

Note - no entry forms will be accepted after Wednesday 5 October 2011 and cheques should be made payable to ASA SWR.

2011 IPC Swimming European Championships

National Performance Director John Atkinson insists the British Gas GBR Disability Swimming team will be one of the teams to beat at the 2011 IPC Swimming European Championships in Berlin.

With little over a year to go until the London 2012 Paralympic Games, the British team are in high spirits on the eve of the competition as they seek to continue their progression of recent years.

Roberts and Kindred withdraw from IPC Swimming European Championships 2011

Paralympic champions Dave Roberts and Sascha Kindred have been forced to withdraw from the IPC Swimming European Championships due to injury.

Roberts, who suffered from an elbow injury earlier this year, required surgery nine days ago after extensive physiotherapy to a tricep tear and compression of the ulna nerve sustained during a training accident.

World champion Kindred has been advised to take the time to heal and recover from on-going back problem after a series of MRI scans.

Live coverage of BT Paralympic World Cup 2011

Paralympic Games broadcasters Channel 4 will present live coverage of the 2011 BT Paralympic World Cup as some of Britainís top disability swimmers put the finishing touches to their IPC European Championship preparation.

The swimming competition will be the showpiece on the final day of the annual Paralympic festival in Manchester with Eleanor Simmonds, Sascha Kindred and Jonathan Fox all set to compete this Saturday.

The event will be most swimmersí last competition before they begin their preparations in earnest for Julyís European Championships in Berlin.

London 2012 announce Paralympic ticket prices

Fans will be able to watch their favourite swimmers at the London 2012 Paralympic Games for as little as £5 next summer.

London 2012 organisers announced ticket prices for all Paralympic events today with tickets for the morning sessions of swimming ranging from £10 to £30 in the best seats.

Liz Johnson lays last tile in the London 2012 Aquatics Centre

The final tile in the Aquatics Centre competition pool was laid by Paralympic gold medal winning swimmer Liz Johnson of ITC Bath with 500 days to go until the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

British Disability Swimming Team for IPC Swimming European Championships 2011

3 to 10 July 2011 - Berlin

The IPC Swimming European Championships will be the last benchmark meet for the athletes before the 2012 Paralmpic Games. The 43-strong British Disability Swimming Team, powered by British Gas, will be looking to put a marker down before competing in front of their home crowd just a year later.

National Performance Director John Atkinson, who has been in charge of the programme for just under a year, believes his athletes have what it takes to impress in Berlin.

8 to 10 April 2011 - Ponds Forge International Swimming Centre

Witness a superb showcase of swimming in Sheffield as over 300 disabled swimmers compete in the run up to Julyís IPC Swimming European Championships in Berlin.

The British International Disability Swimming Championship welcome international swimmers from all over the world- alongside our own successful disability swimming team, powered by British Gas. You could witness record breaking performances from the likes of Beijing gold medallists Ellie Simmonds, Sascha Kindred, Liz Johnson and a whole host of other stars. Nationwide Building Society, British Swimming and Speedo are supporting the event.

BT Paralympic World Cup 2011

28 May 2011 - Manchester Aquatics Centre

Matthew Whorwood, Jonathan Fox, Ben Procter, Louise Watkin, Claire Cashmore, Stephanie Millward and Liz Johnson have been selected for the home nation British Swimming Team, powered by British Gas, which will take on swimmers representing Europe, the Americas and the Rest of The World for the BT Paralympic World Cup trophy.

The event will be a key performance indicator for the British swimmers ahead of the IPC European Championships being held in Berlin in August.
