Further change to venue and date for British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships (50m) 2012

There has been a further change to venue and date for British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships (50m) 2012.

Due to circumstances out of our control the British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships (50m) will now take place from 4 to 6 May 2012 at Ponds Forge pool in Sheffield.

The competition was originally scheduled in Plymouth for 16 to 18 March 2012. Unfortunately the newly built pool announced it would not be ready for these dates.

An alternative venue was sourced in Cardiff but the dates given saw a clash with a Six Nations Rugby match which would see only limited accommodation available.

British Swimming has been working with the Masters committee to try to find a suitable date and venue for the event around the Masters calendar and suitable 50m pools.

Contractors confirm completion date for Plymouth Life Centre

From Liz Slater Leisure Projects Officer BA (Hons) DMS, Plymouth City Council*

The main contractor for the Plymouth Life Centre has confirmed a final completion date for the new facility.

Balfour Beatty has announced it will be officially handing the building over to Everyone Active (who will be operating the centre in partnership with Plymouth City Council) on Monday 27 February 2012.

The Council received written confirmation on Monday 14 November that there would be a revised contract completion date, following a comprehensive programme review. Balfour Beatty said this ‘is due to a number of factors including delays in obtaining materials from mainland Europe and sequencing issues associated with the complex services installation’.

Gloucester and Somerset County Masters Competitions 2010

Sunday, 12 September 2010 (pool booked from 10am to 6pm. Meet runs from 10.30am* - 5.30pm) - Horfield Leisure Centre, Bristol

This meet for Master and Senior (18 to 24 years) Swimmers will be held under ASA Laws and ASA Technical Rules and is defined by the ASA as a low-level competition. Competitors must be on the list of registered members of an ASA-affiliated club but may have paid only Category 1 Registration and need not to have paid the higher competitive registration fee (Category 2)

Attention swimmers aged 18 to 24 years!

Not doing enough training, can't make qualifying times, not getting to open meets or making team selections, not seeing your mates at meets? Is this what you're looking for? This competition is open to swimmers in the above age-frame - to quote Herbie Adams: too old to be an age-grouper, too wise to be a youth and yet not old enough to have "mastered" the sport!

Herbie adds "Sooner, or later, you will become too old, too busy, or too realistic to want to keep up with the increasing horde of younger, and younger, swimmers. Now might be a good time to take a look at Masters' Swimming. And to ease your passage into the Masters' Ranks, why not enter this year's County Masters' Championships, Senior Section? Set in September, it means that you don't have to worry about not being at the peak of conditioning; there are no long races and everyone is a bit laid-back. "

This meet is good preparation for the premier event in Masters' swimming - the National Masters' Intercounty Event in November.
