FINA 2009 World Championships Swimming - Day 3 Morning Session

David Davies took five seconds off the 800m Freestyle British record as the British Gas swimming team secured one final and three semi-final places after strong performances through the heat session. Davies took to heat four alongside Italian Federico Colbertaldo and Robert Hurley (Australia) and was looking to post a quick time to reach the final next day.

The Olympic silver medallist dominated the first half of his race but as the race entered the final 400m Colbertaldo began to close in on the British Gas swimmer. Davies showed his strength in the final 100m as he touched in a time of 7:45.89 to knock five seconds off his own British record time and qualified in fourth place for the final.

Young Official Development Officer within swimming

Young people have just a few days left to secure an ‘incomparable work experience placement’ within swimming.

The Youth Sport Trust and ASA are looking to recruit one young person, who ideally would be between 18 and 25-years-old, to become a Young Official Development Officer within swimming – but they must get their application in by Friday 26 June 2009.

The full-time volunteer Officer would work with the ASA’s staff, local schools, colleges and clubs to support the training and deployment of young people as officials at local, regional and national competitions.

Trowbridge ASC - Head Coach Required

Trowbridge ASC is a very successful Swim 21 accredited club with over 300 members and new talent coming through all the time. The club enters several teams into local and district team competitions and has had many success stories at individual level including County, District and National champions.

In order to further progress the club recognises the need for a Head Coach who will lead training programmes, attend training sessions and mentor swimmers at team and individual competitions. All expenses will be paid, and for a suitably qualified Coach the club is also prepared to pay a salary dependent upon experience and qualifications.

ASA South West Region Chair 2009 to 2013

Nominations are invited from clubs affiliated to the Region for the role of Chairman (Rule 14.3) for the period September 2009 to September 2013.

The Chairman has the responsibility for chairing meetings of the Board and Annual Council meeting; working with, supporting and line managing the Regional Director. Key responsibilities include working with the Board to ensure the Region delivers against its strategic plan and takes full advantage of opportunities as they arise.

The successful candidate must demonstrate proven leadership and management skills. A knowledge of modern business practice and managing change would be an advantage. Applicants should also consider the description of personal qualities and competencies required by the Board.

The appointment is for a four year period from the close of the Regional Annual Council, September 2009 until the conclusion of the Annual Council meeting 2013. The Chairman is currently a voluntary role with expenses paid in line with Regions policy.

Job Description
British Swimming is seeking to recruit an individual who can contribute to the technical direction and operational standards for the Swansea Intensive Training Centre. This will involve creating a World Class daily training environment for swimmers and establishing, monitoring and evaluating the Annual Performance for athletes coached by this position. This is a fantastic opportunity to assist British Swimming in their quest for success at the London Olympics in 2012 and also to ensure the legacy and talent pathway continues beyond 2012.

Aquamark Assessors

The ASA are currently in the process of reviewing the ASA Aquamark Accreditation programme. The programme will be streamlined and updated to bring in line with current thinking and be better aligned with other Accreditation programmes. As part of this process the ASA are looking to recruit more people to join the team of ASA Accreditation Assessors working for the ASA Awarding Body.

Centres able to apply for assessment will include swim schools, school swimming programmes and learn to swim programmes and applications will be welcome from persons able to specialise in these areas and all persons with experience of delivery across all areas.

At the moment all that is needed is for you to register your interest by submitting a letter outlining your suitability for the role for which details are outlined below plus a supporting CV. If selected you will be required to attend a training day in Loughborough.

NB: Not all those expressing an interest will be selected to attend the training and subsequently be invited to fulfil this role. NB: Travelling expenses to attend the training event will be met by the ASA.
