FINA 2009 World Championships Swimming - Day 3 Morning Session

David Davies took five seconds off the 800m Freestyle British record as the British Gas swimming team secured one final and three semi-final places after strong performances through the heat session. Davies took to heat four alongside Italian Federico Colbertaldo and Robert Hurley (Australia) and was looking to post a quick time to reach the final next day.

The Olympic silver medallist dominated the first half of his race but as the race entered the final 400m Colbertaldo began to close in on the British Gas swimmer. Davies showed his strength in the final 100m as he touched in a time of 7:45.89 to knock five seconds off his own British record time and qualified in fourth place for the final.

Changes to all Club Constitutions and Checklist

All clubs are required to review their current constitution and ensure that they have a constitution in place that has been ratified by the regions as being conformant to the ASA requirement by June 2007. ASA South West has produced a short ‘crib sheet’ of the main changes to help you make the necessary amendments and this document can be downloaded below. The process for having your constitution approved remains the same, – please make the changes and forward to your County Association for ratification. New Club Rules

Please note by June 2007 all Accredited Swim21 Clubs must ensure that their Club Constitution / Rules comply with the revised ASA Club Constitution recommendation to retain Swim21 Accreditation.

Failure to up-date your Club Rules will result in the suspension of your club accreditation. The ASA recommended Club Constitution can be found on 'Club Information' on the British Swimming website. Please click here to view.

British Swimming Gains Equality First

British Swimming has underlined its commitment to achieving equality by becoming the first British governing body to gain the Preliminary Level of the Equality Standard for Sport.

Following a joint submission with the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA), British Swimming has achieved both the Foundation and Preliminary levels of the Standard, which are testament to the organisations’ hard work and commitment to ensuring they work towards building a sport for all.
