FINA 2009 World Championships Swimming - Day 3 Morning Session

David Davies took five seconds off the 800m Freestyle British record as the British Gas swimming team secured one final and three semi-final places after strong performances through the heat session. Davies took to heat four alongside Italian Federico Colbertaldo and Robert Hurley (Australia) and was looking to post a quick time to reach the final next day.

The Olympic silver medallist dominated the first half of his race but as the race entered the final 400m Colbertaldo began to close in on the British Gas swimmer. Davies showed his strength in the final 100m as he touched in a time of 7:45.89 to knock five seconds off his own British record time and qualified in fourth place for the final.

British Gas Women’s Water Polo Team prepare for European challenge

7 to 12 July 2009 - Manchester Aquatics Centre

With less than a month to go until the LEN Women’s European Nations Trophy gets underway at the Manchester Aquatics Centre, the British Gas Women’s water polo team are training hard at their Manchester base.

The official 13-strong British Gas team may not be announced until later this month, but that hasn’t stopped all 16 women working on their ball skills to ensure their place on the team.

“Everyone is really looking forward to competing in front of a home crowd so we are all fighting for our place on the team,” said British Gas player Chloe Wilcox. “The training has definitely been stepped up and it’s a lot more intense now, we’re absolutely knackered! We’re working on some things now and waiting to peak at the right time, so hopefully we’ll be performing at our best for the European Nations Trophy,” she continued.

Paignton Swimming Club Festival of Mini Polo 2009

Sunday 20th September 2009 (1pm to 5pm) - Torbay Leisure Centre, Penwill Way, Paignton, TQ4 5JR.

For players born 1998 - 2001. Everybody had great time last year as eight teams of kids played a total of 32 matches, scored about 150 goals. Judging by the racket the parents seemed to enjoy themselves as well. The Festival can probably accomodate up to 12 teams. Some teams from last year have already expressed an interest in playing again this year, such as the RTC Dragons from Wales, last year's winners, who are hoping to enter two teams this year, so book now to avoid disappointment!

Entry Fee £25 per team.
