FINA 2009 World Championships Swimming - Day 3 Morning Session

David Davies took five seconds off the 800m Freestyle British record as the British Gas swimming team secured one final and three semi-final places after strong performances through the heat session. Davies took to heat four alongside Italian Federico Colbertaldo and Robert Hurley (Australia) and was looking to post a quick time to reach the final next day.

The Olympic silver medallist dominated the first half of his race but as the race entered the final 400m Colbertaldo began to close in on the British Gas swimmer. Davies showed his strength in the final 100m as he touched in a time of 7:45.89 to knock five seconds off his own British record time and qualified in fourth place for the final.

They then receive immediate confirmation of their acceptance onto the seminar via email. Non-IoS members are also able to log in by completing a brief online registration process.

New rules on age limit for ScUK Safeguarding & Protecting Children workshops

There have been concerns regarding the attendance of 16-18 year olds at ScUK Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshops, regarding the learning experience being provided to this age group.

Young people attending the workshops are of course aiming to support their understanding of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and protecting children and young people, however they are themselves defined as children under the Children Act 1989 and are potentially subject to the issues that the workshop aims to address.

ScUK have taken guidance from the NSPCC and have recommended the following:

sports coach UK Workshops Update Feb 09

sports coach UK is to introduce a revised package of services from April 2009 that will include a new approach to the provision of workshops.

The way in which workshops are managed and delivered is to be modified in response to the changing coaching landscape and the needs of their partners. Feedback from governing bodies of sport, key partners and the Home Country Sports Councils made it clear that a number of the workshops they offer are coming to the end of their life cycle.

Therefore, there will be a new core workshop package consisting of a smaller, more focused, number of titles that relate directly to current coach need. Approximately 19 titles make up this core offer that will become available in a phased approach throughout 2009/10.
