World Class An Olympic swimming hopeful from Moorlinch has been shortlisted for a top sports award.

Seventeen-year-old James Clarke has been named alongside four other rising stars of the sporting world as a contender in the One Complete Solution (OCS) Young Sportsperson of the Year award. His goal is to compete in the 2006 Commonwealth Games and 2008 and 2012 Olympics and to be seen as a good ambassador for the sport.

He will train with 15 young hopefuls keen to become a member of the senior swimming squad for the Olympic Games in 2008.

Nearly 600 entries from across the UK were received for the OCS competition, which is widely recognised as one of the most prestigious sports awards for young people.

The regional winner will receive a cheque for £2,500 at a ceremony hosted by Denise Lewis on November 25 in London.

The winner of the Young Sportsperson of the Year will also be announced and he or she will collect £8,000 worth of sponsorship and a cheque for £2,500 for their school college or club.

Chris Cracknell, OCS boss, said: "Choosing each of the regional winners is a tough challenge as the quality of entries is, as always, extremely high.

"Our decision to shortlist James reflects the significant achievements he has made in his field over the past year, and his ability to combine schoolwork with such a magnificent level of sporting commitment and prowess."
