Free swimming initiative |
Sport England South West, the Amateur Swimming Association South West and the Chief Leisure Officers’ Association in the South West are piloting a free swimming weekend across the region's 51 local authorities.
The South West Free Swimming Initiative will offer everyone living in the region the opportunity to swim in a public pool without charge over one weekend during October. The focus of the initiative will be 14-16 October 2005. More details here.

We apologise for the occasional periods of downtime you may have experienced on the ASA South West site www.swimwest.org/region/index.php over the last seven days.
Due to the increasing numbers of visits, our site was moved on to a new server to avoid congestion. A newer version of the php software environment was installed on the server. Whilst we addressed potential compatibility problems, we have experienced some unexpected ones and currently addressing them (at no cost).
Please bear with us meanwhile - we are making every effort to restore normal service...

The Bristol Central Water Polo Team lost their opening game of their LEN Trophy campaign which is taking place in Brescia, Northern Italy from September 28th until October 2nd, 2005.
They went down 16-5 to the Greek team, NC Patras 16-5 (3-1, 6.-0, 4.-4, 3-0).
The seven-team tournament involves the home team of "Systema" Leonessa Brescia, ZF "Brendon" Eger from Hungery, VK Medvescak Zagreb of Croatia, Taverny SN95 of France and WBC Tirol of Austria, as well as the Bristol team and the Greeks.
Next up for Bristol, the Croatians and then the Hungarians.

October is Everyday Swimming Month.
ASA South West in association with Sport England are promoting swimming as a healthy activity for all of October. This promotion will culminate in a free swimming campaign across pools in the South West over the weekend of October 14th - 16th.
Everyday swimming will start with a media launch on Tuesday 4th October 10.30am at GL1, Gloucester. Sport England Regional Director Jim Clarke and ASA South West Regional Director Alison Usher will be on hand to promote the sport.
